"Red Flowering Gum"
Native to a small area on the south coast of Western Australia between Walpole and Denmark, where it prefers poor sandy soil but is adaptable to other soil types in cultivation. Having a rough bark and glossy green leaves it is similar in form but smaller than calophylla. Renowned for the profusion and vibrant colour of its blossom. Flowering occurs from December to January. Colours can vary from a light pink through orange to brilliant red. Slow growing but well worth the wait.
